Strach Is A Con Man

MIDDLESBROUGH boss Gordon Strachan will this week launch a pounds 550,000 bid for Dundee United midfielder Craig Conway.

He has told Boro chiefs to make contact and thrash out a fee.

The Arabs want to keep Conway but may not be able to resist a bid as they attempt to reduce their debt of around pounds 5.5million.

Conway helped Peter Houston’s men finish third in the SPL and win the Scottish Cup. His consistent displays have attracted several clubs but Boro lead the chase.

If the move goes through it will be the eighth player Strachan has signed from the SPL.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have joined Hearts in the race to sign Scotland star Paul Hartley.

Hartley wants a move back to the SPL from Bristol City and Dons gaffer Mark McGhee hopes to pip Jim Jefferies to his signature.

Ex-Celt Hartley is expected to make a decision this week.

A30 project is said to be a waste of money [Edition 4]

0 Comments | West Briton, The; Truro (UK), Jul 8, 2010 | by DAVID GREEN

THE need for junction improvements to the A30 at Treswithian has been questioned by Camborne town councillors. Cornwall Council is about to launch a public consultation on the scheme but an advance look was given to the town council’s planning committee last week.

Under the proposals, traffic lights will be provided on both slip roads and on the westbound slip road the existing right turn will be closed.

Traffic wanting to turn towards Reskadinnick and Kehelland will have to turn left and use the roundabout.

Trees and shrubs will be cut down to improve visibility and the road will have a new anti-skid surface.

The footway will be widened to three metres to create roomfor cyclists as well as pedestrians.

As part of the proposed Treswithian bypass scheme, to create access for a 2,000-home development, the roundabout will be altered to create room for a possible fourth arm.

Committee member Councillor Jean Charman said: “It strikes me all this work is being done to facilitate the Treswithian urban development. The Government said the area action plan housing proposals were being got rid of, so why is this work being done?” She added: “We couldn’t see that there would be any improvement to the junction. A lot of money will be spent unnecessarily.”

Committee members asked detailed questions of highways official David Phillips, who gave them a presentation on the scheme

I have my

July 29th, 2010

I have my own place, a new car, a great job, and I?m very successful in my career that holds a lot of promise for more growth and success. So I guess my biggest question is why am I alone? I treat the guys I have gone out with really well. Yet, it never seems to be enough. I just want to build a life with someone who has ambition, dreams, and who will love me and look out for me as I would for him. —Gay Man, age 29

This young man is not alone with his predicament. Millions of singles, both gay and straight, face the same frustrations and challenges involved in their dating quests for their true life partners. Finding a compatible, quality guy to settle down with is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, so it’s important to assess how your dating experiences and choices are matching with your needs and goals, particularly if you’ve been dealing with a series of dating mishaps and disatisfactions.

Everything in nature has been endowed with

July 29th, 2010

Everything in nature has been endowed with what it needs to survive. There is no living thing that isn’t inherently equipped with the skills and abilities it needs to secure its continued existence. Whether through instinct, size, camouflage or speed, no gazelle, lion or giraffe has to go to trade school to learn how to survive. That?s the beauty of the divine plan. We, as humans, are part of this plan and each one of us is given something that sets us apart from everyone else; something that we can use to ensure our own survival.

Before industrialization sent hoards of us to the cities to work on assembly lines in factories, we all used something we did or owned to exchange for the things we couldn’t do or didn’t own. Experts say that before the Industrial Revolution, 80% of us where entrepreneurs.

Unfortunately, because we now live in a capitalistic society, we rarely have a chance to be rewarded for the extraordinary potential we bring to the universe.

As I awaken with the gift of

July 28th, 2010

As I awaken with the gift of yet another day and prepare for the
tasks at hand, I offer up this most ardent prayer:

I pray for continued clarity of purpose so that I may hold my
vision steady and keep my focus on the needs and success of
others, which in turn shall bring me my success.

I pray for the wisdom to expect abundance in my life, that it
surrounds me and is available for the taking and to be shameless
and unapologetic upon its receipt, for I deserve abundance.

I pray for a cheerful countenance, be it clear or cloudy skies
and that I may radiate and infect others with my positive
attitude.

I pray for the trust of others that they may recognize my
sincerity and true intentions so that we may move forward
together.

I pray for the strength to fend off adversity and use my desire
and determination as both weapon and shield.

I pray for the courage to carry forth my convictions during the
battle of business and to resist temptation to a quicker monetary
result when such temptation compromises these things for which I
stand.

I pray that I may be used as a lightning rod to collect the
amazing ideas already present in the universe and when blessed
with such inspiration, that I may be able to apply my talents and
abilities to turn the power of thought into measurable
advancement of my goals.

I pray to retain my childhood wonder so that I can recognize and
revel in the small miracles of each day that others may miss.

I pray for an infinite supply of self-confidence for it alone
fortifies faith, strengthens my resolve and conquers the largest
enemy I will ever face – fear.

I pray for a compassionate spirit and the patience to offer those
who seek my advice and my help, my full and undivided attention.

I pray for good health and a feeling of well being, and the
continued desire to improve those areas of my physical life I may
be neglecting in the name of my spiritual and entrepreneurial
advancement.

I pray that today is a day of excellence and at its conclusion I
can acknowledge and be grateful for the forward motion I have
made and the growth I have experienced.

I pray most of all for the understanding and support of those
closest to my heart, my family, that they will equate what may
seem like endless hours of apparent pre-occupation with affairs
of business to what is at the very core of my being, that which
drives me, for once I achieve what I have set out in its fullest,
I will become that more complete being I strive to be.

It is for these things that I pray, for I am an entrepreneur.

You want to

July 28th, 2010

You want to also be sure to double check the recommended or allowable weight limit on the treadmill machines that you are considering purchasing, especially on some of the cheaper models. Of course this won’t be a problem if you don’t weigh very much, but if you’re heavier and looking to start running in order to reduce your weight it could be important to know if the weight limit for the machine is very low in order to prevent any sports or running injury from taking place.

Whether you are spending $300 or $1000 on a treadmill or indoor running machine it is important to make sure that you get good value for your money and that the machine will do what you require safely and effectively. In order to meet this requirement it is worth taking a little time and trouble to check through the various web sites and magazines to make sure that the machine you are thinking of buying is the best of its type at your available budget.

Some time spent researching this information before you buy will pay dividends in the long run and ensure that the machine you buy is really one of the best recommended treadmills.

When you don?t consume

July 28th, 2010

When you don?t consume enough calories to feed your body, your body doesn?t know when to expect more, and so to keep from starving will go into a slower metabolism phase in order to preserve the body mass that it does have.

By eating five to six times a day (including snacks), your body will keep it?s metabolism at an optimum level, which equates to burning more fat by maintaining muscle. Every day should begin with a healthy breakfast; mid-morning can include a healthy snack, an example could be a few cashews coupled with an apple. Next comes a good lunch; mid-afternoon is fulfilled with a nice snack again, maybe some yogurt and a few carrots. And dinner seals the package.

Be sure and eat your dinner at a decent hour, because no matter how healthy the food is that you put into your body, if you don?t burn off the calories, your body will store them as fat. Another tip is not to exceed four hours between meals. After a few weeks of supportive, healthy eating, you may find that you are getting hungry more often.

Artwork is on display on human canvas at music festival

0 Comments | Roanoke Times & World News, Jul 25, 2010 | by Neil Harvey

About 14,000 people are expected to pass through FloydFest 9 this weekend, a figure that gives the event a population roughly the size of Radford.

Scores will be entertained by acts such as Old Crow Medicine Show, Levon Helm and Grace Potter, but an avid observer could probably spend all four days of the music-and-arts festival sitting back and watching the crowd.

Part Woodstock, part flea market, part day in the park, the festival presents a vast flurry of shorts, shades, sneakers, sundresses and sandals, along with a whirl of ball caps, straw hats, hairstyles, T-shirts, tie-dies and tattoos.

Saturday, as temperatures climbed north of 90 and the fields were baked by the late-July sun, shirts were in far shorter supply than skin art.

Here, then, the product of people-watching, are four short stories of four FloydFest fans and their tattoos:

You could see Alex Broughton’s face even when his back was turned.

The 44-year-old maintenance technician from Roanoke has a demonic likeness of himself inked into the flesh behind his left shoulder. His wild-eyed doppleganger appears to be clawing and gnawing its way from the inside out.

The tattoo, Broughton said, covers a previous image, a wizard, etched on a fateful night in 1994. Hours later, he was in a car accident, and though he said he wasn’t seriously injured, Cynthia, his wife of 22 years, did not fare as well.

“She was hurt,” he said. “And that’s the real demon. I needed to cover it up.” In 2008, he finally did, blocking the wizard tattoo with a depiction of his own frustration. “Everybody has their inner demon, and I’ve carried mine. I’ve finally let go.”

A less permanent and lighter-hearted kind of tattoo was being drawn Saturday by Jim McGuire, an artist and photographer from Charlotte, N.C.

Clad in a leather kilt and a horn-shaped straw hat from Senegal, he wore across his chest a belt that carried dozens of colored markers, which he used to draw what he called “Sharpie tats” on the arms and faces of those willing to become a canvas. It’s a hobby the father of two said seems to build its own momentum, especially when children are around.

“It’s kind of a sort of a ‘let the magic happen’ thing,” McGuire said. “Usually if I start doing one person, they start coming up to me really fast.”

For Matt Maze, the artworks on his skin are reminders.

Standing shirtless near the main stage in rainbow-lensed sunglasses, Maze wore a Dr. Seuss-style stovepipe hat that made his better-than-6-foot frame even taller.

The 26-year-old chef from Winchester, Tenn., has 17 tattoos in all, including a skull in a jester’s cap etched on his back.

“My best friend drew it for me before he died,” Maze explained. He said his friend Zack was killed by a drunken driver just seven months ago.

He wears other totems, too — a heart with his little sister’s name in it; dragons; samurai swords; and, below the back of his neck, a plaintive cross.

“My mom told me, ‘I hate tattoos, but if you’re going to tattoo yourself up, get a cross.’ So I did,” he said.

Tara Rudolph, 37, a dental hygienist from Orange, sported an eye- poppingly detailed American beauty rose emblazoned across her right shoulder, half a foot long. She said it took six hours to render the flower and stem
